Civil War Life News

Civil War Life is now The National Civil War Life Museum. What's in a name? The new name reflects our new foundation and our new mission. Later this year we will break ground on a new museum. It will be built near the Spotsylvania Courthouse battlefield. The new foundation has been set up to enable us to do the fundraising we need to support the museum.

Civil War Life was recently the subject of a hit Television show called "In Search of Cash and Treasure". The program has aired a number of times since December on the Travel Channel. Museum Director Terry Thomann was interviewed by the show's host, Becky Worley, while she toured the museum and learned the importance of Civil War relics to the understanding of American History.

A shared interest in preservation of battlefields, photography and artifacts is the focus of a new brochure issued in April this year. The brochure was a joint effort by Civil War Life, the Civil War Preservation Trust, and the Center for Civil War Photography.

Civil War Life was selected as one of the sites to host a traveling exhibit  titled "From Sea to Shining Sea: 200 Years of America's Coast Survey." The special exhibit which is scheduled to open June 16th., will consist of a 20-poster set to highlight the history, accomplishments, and scientific contributions of the C&GS. America's coasts played a pivotal role in the Civil War. The Union's "Anaconda Plan", originally proposed by Gen. Winfield Scott resulted in the blockade of southern ports.
